Venkateswara Temple, also popularly known as Tirupati Balaji Mandir is one of the most visited and popular temples in India. The sanctum sanctorum, which houses the awe-inspiring idol of the Lord of the Seven Hills, is situated in the main temple complex of Tirumala. The temple is located at a distance of 67 km from Chittoor, in the southern part of Andhra Pradesh.

Believed to be the richest temple in the entire world, the temple offers you amazing amalgamation of history, culture, and devotion. Pilgrims from all over are seen standing in queues in the wee hours of the early morning to have a glimpse of the Presiding deity and get his blessings. Inside the temple, Lord Venkateswara is found along with Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Sri Padmavathi Devi. The posture of the Lord is very unique. The Lord bears His consort Goddess Mahalakshmi seated on his chest. The shrine located atop a hill in a place called Trirumala has a cluster of seven hills known as Seshachalam and is positioned at an elevated height of nearly 3000ft above the sea level.

  • Venkateswara Temple is well connected by air and railways. The nearest airport is at Renigunta 15 km from the temple and it is well connected to the airports at Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bangalore. The nearest railway station situated at Tirupati. It is connected with Hubbi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolhapur etc.
  • There is no entry fees in the temple but if you want to make a special darshan, then you have to make advanced booking for the same.
  • Pooja Timings of the temple are:
  • Suprabhatam (Shloka) – 6.30 am to 7.00 am
  • Vishwarup Darshanam (Shloka) – 6.30 am to 7.00 am
  • Abhishekam and Alankaram – 7:00 am to 7:30 am
  • Thiruaradhanam (Shloka) – 7.30 am to 7.45 am
  • Bhog – 8:00 am, 11.00 am & 7.30 pm
  • Darshan Detials:
  • Archana – 8.00 am to 1:00 pm
  • Temple closes – 1.00 p.m.
  • Temple reopens for public darshan – 3:30 pm
  • Aarti – 6.00 pm
  • Shayana Aarti – Ekantaseva (Temple closed) – 8:00 pm
  • Another ritual takes place in the temple where the marriage of Lord Venkateshwara with Goddess Lakshmi and Padmavathi is signified. The cost of the ticket for same is Rs.1000 for 2 persons.
  • You can also take a ticket and watch several Poojas and Stotrams of – Lord Venkateshwara and Goddess Lakshmi and Padmavathi. The cost is Rs.1000 for 5 persons.
  • In another Pooja ritual known as Unjal Seva deities are placed in swing against a backdrop of lamps. The ticket cost is Rs. 1000 for 5 persons

Visitor Information

  • Before entering into the temples, one should bathe and clean clothes should be worn.
  • Remove your footwear before entering the temple premises.
  • Ancient customs should be respected while at Tirumala.
  • Religious sentiments and customs should be discussed with co-pilgrims.
  • Before worshiping Lord Sri Venkateswara, one should worship Sri Varahaswami after bathing in the pushkarini.
  • Temple procedures should be followed and one should do darshan only when the turn comes.
  • Consumptions of liquor, non vegetarian food and other intoxicants is prohibited
  • Don’t throw away the teertham or prasadam given from the temple
  • Flowers and garlands cannot be worn inside the temple because flowers are only meant for the lord
  • Headgears or helmets, caps and hats and even turbans are not allowed inside the temple
  • Sitting with the back towards the deity is not allowed
  • Food cannot be brought from outside or don’t chew betel leaves

Best Time to Visit

Weather wise, it is best to visit the temple during the winter months between November and March. The summer months of May and June get very hot with the mercury touching 45 degree Celsius and monsoons arrive end June early July.



Brahmotsavam is a Hindu festival celebrated annually at Venkateswara Temple at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. The festival continues for 9 days in the months of September and October. People believed that Lord Brahma was the first to start this festival. He worshiped Sri Balaji to thank him for the protection of mankind.

Daily Pooja


The morning pooja is performed at 3AM in the morning inside the main Sanctum.A silver replica of the idol (Srinivasa Murthy) is taken from the Sayana Mandapam to the Ananda Nilayam. The Tickets cost Rupees Two Hundred per person and can be booked in advance. At 3.30AM in the morning, deities of the Ananda Nilayam are decorated with special garlands made of Tulasi and flowers and the pooja lasts for about 30 minutes. The public is allowed to view the ceremony only on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The Ticket price is Rupees 220 per person. At 4.30Am in the morning Venkateshwara Sahasranama Archana takes place. The last pooja for the day is Ekantha Seva where silver image of Lord Srinivasa is laid down in a golden cot in a sleeping position.
